AERCO Expands Award-Winning CFR Boiler Line with New 2000 MBH Model, Delivering More Flexibility for Retrofit Projects

AERCO announces the expansion of its groundbreaking CFR condensing boiler line with the addition of a new 2000 MBH model. CFR is the world’s first stainless steel condensing boiler approved for Category I venting, redefining retrofit possibilities for engineers and facility managers. Now, the CFR boiler is available in more sizing options with 1500, 2000, and 3000 MBH units. This milestone follows the recent recognition at AHR Expo 2025, where CFR won the AHR Innovation Award in the Heating category, validating its industry-first capability to reuse existing Category I / Type B venting while delivering high-efficiency performance.

StackGuard™ Technology Makes Retrofit Simpler – and Smarter

Condensing boilers require Category IV venting to withstand the flue products’ acidic condensate. AERCO’s patented StackGuard™ technology enables CFR to operate as a high-efficiency boiler while maintaining dry flue gas, making it safe for Category I vent systems. This allows buildings to reuse existing venting infrastructure, drastically reducing installation time, cost, and complexity – especially in space-restricted retrofit projects.

More Sizing Flexibility, Same Trusted Performance

With the introduction of the 2000 MBH model, engineers can now select from three CFR sizes to best match building loads, providing more precise system design without over- or under-sizing. Each CFR unit features a durable 439 stainless steel fire-tube heat exchanger, capable of withstanding the challenges of varying return water temperatures and thermal shock, and covered by an industry-leading warranty.

    All CFR boilers come equipped with AERCO’s Edge® Controller for intuitive system optimization and seamless integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS). AERCO’s Boiler Sequencing Technology (BST) allows up to 16 boilers to operate in harmony, each at part load, for optimal efficiency and redundancy. CFR can also be paired with AERCO’s SmartPlate EV indirect water heaters

    Additional features include:

  • Low NOx emissions (<20 ppm)
  • Ducted combustion air capability
  • Multiple control options including 4-20mA, Modbus, and remote setpoint
  • Built-in BACnet and Modbus communication – no gateway required
