Sheraton Hasbrouck Heights Hotel and Towers

The Sheraton Hasbrouck Heights Hotel and Towers in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ originally had two oil-fired boilers, with 2.8 million Btu/h input each. They produced hot water for space heating common areas, domestic hot water for rooms, laundry and kitchen hot water, and water for the heated pool. Early in the winter of 1993-94, the in-ground oil tank failed a pressure test, indicating the need for costly repair or replacement. The storage tank was filled with concrete, and one of the original boilers was replaced with five AERCO KC-1000 Gas Fired Boilers, with a high efficiency, fully modulating, condensing design.

Multiple boiler systems offer a way to more closely match energy input to load requirements," says Fred Campagna, AERCO's VP of Marketing. "Rather than have a large unit fire on-off, or perhaps in crude one-third increments, multiple systems can offer a finer resolution, lower cycling losses, and higher seasonal efficiencies."

A comparison of the Sheraton's energy use for March 1993 versus March 1994 showed a savings of approx. 66% in energy required per degree day (Btu/degree day) by converting to the new units.
