Complaints About Too Little (Or Too Much) Heat Eliminated
Bell Park Manor covers 50 acres in Queens, NY, houses 2500 people, and had a 40 year old heating system. The old system consisted of #6 oil-fired low pressure steam boilers generating heating hot water through converters for distribution to several buildings. With 12 inefficient and aging boiler systems sized from 250 to 500 boiler horsepower, Bell Park Manor was suffering from rising fuel and maintenance costs.
A thorough analysis determined that AERCO was the only gas boiler system that would provide a high enough seasonal efficiency to offset the higher price of uniterruptible gas.
AERCO was also the only manufacturer who published part-load efficiencies at the actual water temperatures experience at Bell Park. Since heating systems are always sized for the worst-case temperatures, most of the year, heating systems will be at part load. Since AERCO boilers are more efficient at part load, it is advantageous to run multiple units at lower firing rates than only a few at full-fire. This control logic essentially eliminates the cycling and stand-by losses found in every other boiler system.
Everyone is pleased because tenant complaints about too little (or too much) heat have been eliminated. The AERCO boilers modulate to provide even temperature (+/-2°F), even under rapidly changing heat loads.
